I Will Remember

I write this today with a troubled heart, in honor of the loss of a baby that very few will mourn. A baby that some would not even consider a baby, but rather simply "a clump of cells." However, there was a heartbeat, the first sign of life, and then there was not. "I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born." Jeremiah 1:5 (CSB) To me, this baby was as much a baby as an unbaked cake is still a cake. I heard an illustration about a guy who mixed all the ingredients for cake. He poured it into a pan and placed it in the oven. His friend came over and asked him what he was baking, and he told him he was baking a cake. His friend went over to the oven, pulled out the pan and threw it on the floor, splattering cake batter everywhere. His friend said, "That's not a cake!" The guy said, "Well, it would have been!" If we throw out the batter before it has a chance to bake, we will never have cake. "For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalms 139:13 (CSB) It was a miscarriage that was prayed for which blows my mind. I write this today with anger. 

I write this today with a saddened heart, to honor a mother that had to go through the unimaginable loss of her baby alone, unable to be surrounded by family. "The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit." Psalms 34:18 (CSB) Because of the mental illness of addiction, coinciding with a string of bad choices that she made, she was unable to be comforted by a sympathetic, loving hug. "He will cover you with his feathers; you will take refuge under his wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield." Psalms 91:4 (CSB) A mother, whom by many might be considered void of morality, valued the sanctity of life enough to choose it for her baby. "'Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners' - and I am the worst of them. But I received mercy for this reason, so that in me, the worst of them, Christ Jesus might demonstrate his extraordinary patience as an example to those who would believe in him for eternal life." I Timothy 1:15-16 (CSB) I write this today with admiration.


I write this today to declare my faith in a sovereign God who gives and takes away. "The Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21 (CSB) I declare my trust in an omniscient God who sees a world that I cannot, a world where angels and demons battle over good and evil. "The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, observing the wicked and the good." Proverbs 15:3 (CSB) I declare my thanks to a just God who works all things together for my good. "We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 (CSB) I declare my love for a God that has an eternal home waiting for me where I will praise Him forever, all of my days!! "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." John 14:2-3 (CSB) I write this today with hope!

There Will Be Cake

Today, there will be cake, birthday cake to be exact. It will not be a joy filled, opening presents type of celebration, however. Nineteen years ago on March 16, 2005, I had an experience that changed my spiritual and mental outlook forever. It was definitely a defining moment in my life. I was about thirty-two weeks into my second pregnancy and things were progressing well. As a matter of fact, I went for an ultrasound on March 14th and was told the baby was developing normally, everything looked good. We decided we didn't want to know the sex of the baby, as we did with our first pregnancy. I loved the element of surprise, it made it even more exciting and, man, were we excited! Nothing Else

In the last blog post, I put in writing that I will choose one song a week to start my day. The goal of this is to begin my day with focus on God. My chosen song of the week was "Nothing Else" (Songwriters: Cody Carnes/ Hank Bentley/ Jessie Parker Early).  "I'm caught up in Your presence  I just wanna sit here at Your feet  I'm caught up in this holy moment  I never wanna leave."  We wake up, start our day with worship and a time of devotion. We feel like we have spent time in the presence of God and our hearts are feeling joyful until we make breakfast, spill our coffee on our carefully selected outfit and sprinkle Cajun seasoning on our toast instead of Cinnamon (almost happened, but luckily, I caught it in time - phew!). Our mood shifts quickly, and we no longer feel joy or that God is near to us. This Little Light of Mine

Last weekend, I met up with "J" and her cousin, whom we will call "K" to run some miles on the river trail. When I meet them at the trail, they usually run for a minimum of ten miles together and meet me somewhere in the last half of their run to pick me up for the four (4.25 to be exact) miles back to the parking lot. I have to decide whether I will run the rest of the way with them and be driven back to my van or run with them a certain distance before turning around and heading back to my van on my own. I used to go the whole way with them before turning around and heading back to my van on my own, but I haven't been going much over four miles at a time lately. So, last weekend, we started out and when we got close to mile two, it was in my head that I needed to make a decision. I felt like I could go on. At mile three the uncertainty started to set in.
