Random Thoughts

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)

I was out of topic ideas for this week, so here are nineteen random thoughts for April 19th:

1. I should probably incorporate some speed work into my runs.

2. Practically, how can we avoid getting distracted by things that don't matter when we are required (and called) to operate in the world around us?

3. Why are people attracted to traumatizing events? For example, slowing down to check out an accident scene.

4. Roses seem to be the most popular flower to send but yet, when cut, they don't seem to last for a full week.

5. Yellow is a great color for school busses. They really stand out!

6. Why do weeds grow so much easier than flowers?

7. If a church Pastor's role is, in the Bible, compared to "shepherding a flock," shouldn't the Pastor know his congregation like a shepherd of sheep would know each one? How can one man be expected to do this if the church size is in the hundreds?

8. Visiting different churches every week means you can wear the same thing week to week, and no one would know.

9. Why don't neighbors talk to each other like they used to?

10. Am I helping anyone outside of my immediate circle with these blog posts?

11. Small talk with a stranger feels like a waste of time to me. If I'm not going to know you long term or interact with you often, why do I want to stop to have a conversation about the weather? Yet, I know that small talk could lead into a deeper conversation and possibly even sharing the Gospel. This is something I need to be more aware of.

12. Why is it legal to ride a motorcycle without a helmet but not a bicycle?

13. Buffalo Wild Wings ranch dressing is in a category all on its own. Seriously, what make is so much better than any other ranch?

14. There are some weird "professional" sports (as we watch the "Slippery Stairs" competition at Buffalo Wild Wings).

15. Why is peanut butter, in general, so good?

16. Nike's "Runners Welcome, Walkers Tolerated" slogan worked well. My feed was flooded yesterday with people talking about Nike. As the saying goes. "No publicity is bad publicity."

17. Tiring me out on a run can have the same effect as a truth serum. Words just start coming out of my mouth.

18. Why does sitting still, not doing anything, make me so tired?

19. I did not accomplish my goals stated in last week's blog of praying with someone I know or a stranger and complimenting a stranger. I knew praying with someone would be a challenge, but I thought the compliment would have come easier and I'm surprised I cannot check that one off. Apparently, I don't think to compliment someone very often. Perhaps because of what I already stated in random thought #11 or perhaps because compliments don't do much for me. Sure, they are nice to hear and can even make me smile but, if I don't already believe what is being said to be true, it has little long-term effect. These goals are now renewed going into the upcoming week and, hopefully, I will report back next week with both of them having been accomplished.
